The Truth Finally Comes Out (David)

Natasha had talked to David about Noah, the Houston Ulfric, however, she hadn't been completely honest with David. The more she thought about the more guilty she felt about it and it finally got the better of her and she had to tell David the truth. The day after her lunch with Remy and Jordana she caught David home alone after work. She still had keys even though she hadn't spent a night in this house in years. Right now she was staying with Jacy at her place. She found David in the kitchen preparing a salad and he had a steak on the grill.

"Hey, you got a minute? I need to tell you something." She paused and then pushed ahead before she had a chance to change her mind.
"I wasn't completely honest with you about Noah. I met Noah in Houston, I knew he was a powerful wolf. I suspected he was an Ulfric but I didn't ask. Things moved quickly and we slept together, more than once."

She paced in front of the counter. She didn't like doing this to Daivd. She had loved David at one time and she did still care for him and he'd been good to her. He probably didn't deserve how she'd treated him over the years but she'd never been good about settleing.

"Anyway, he was an Ulfric with a lupa. She found out about me and him. She came after me, we fought and I accidently killed her. I didn't want her pack, David. I didn't." She had started crying because she hadn't meant to kill the lupa only scare her off. Natasha had kiled before in self-defense and in defense of her pack but she'd never accidently killed anyone. It made her feel dirty.

"Anyway, he wanted me to take her place and I wouldn't so I ran away and came back home."

David heard the key in the door and could feel that it was Natasha on the other side of the door. He didn't call out and tell her where he was. She could find him well enough, after all she was a werewolf. They were great trackers. He nodded at her without saying anything when she asked if he had a minute.

"What do you mean you were completely honest about Noah?" He asked her after her first remark. She continued on telling him about meeting Noah and sleeping with him. He shook his head. She's slept around on him for years. It didn't even bother him anymore. He nodded as he contined cutting his salad up. He stopped and looked up when she said she killed her bu accident.

"She came after you for sleeping with him and you killed her." He looked at the tears running down her chceck and laid down his knife. He went around and put his arm aroud her.

"Why didn't you want to join he pack." David asked. The killing of the lupa if accidently like she said was rough and he even understood why Noah would be looking for Natasha.

Natasha couldn't meet his eyes because she knew he would be disappointed. She had left Dallas while Mia was still in David's home and David and Mia had been well-involved. At the time Natasha left, Mia hadn't decided to leave yet and her and Josh hadn't split up yet. That had all happened while Natasha was traveling around the country. Noah hadn't been the only wolf she'd been with or even the only guy. He'd just been the one that she'd screwed up and killed his lupa.

"I've never been a good lupa." Natasha said taking a step back from David. She had control of her emotions now. "You could have had any alpha female in the pack." She stopped at looked over at him. "For some fucking reason, you choose me. I knew I'd never live up to the title. I was young and untrained and I loved myself more than anyone or any wolf. You knew that and you picked me anyway."

Natasha took a seat on the stool in front of the counter. She looked at David just staring at him for several seconds. Finally, she spoke again.

"You need to pick someone else, David. Someone worthy of you. An actual alpha who will respect you and this pack. I can't keep pretending to be something we both know I can't be. I can't be the lupa of this pack. I was too damaged for that, I always have been too damaged to be lupa."

What made this conversation hard for David was that everything Natasha had said was the truth. He knew this without any doubt in his mind. With that said, it didn't change the fact that he loved Natasha and had since the first time they met. He felt the same way about Nadine but it had more to do with the fact that she was his master. With Natasha, she was supposed to be his equal.

"Natasha, you've done your best for this pack." He just looked at her, thinking for a moment. "If I didn't think you were capable, I wouldn't have picked you." He said still watching her. He felt like he maybe fighting a losing battle.

"If you decide not to be lupa, would you stay with the pack or go with Noah or do something else altogether different?"

Natasha shrugged, unsure what to say to him. She didn't know if she would want to go back and be Noah's lupa or anything else. She just wasn't sure. She liked Remy but she couldn't be a member of his pard seeing as she was the wrong animal. She went to where David was standing and looked up at him.

"You know, I'll probably always love you. You got Nadine's master to allow me in the pack and you've had my back every since." She had started to cry again. "I just wish I could have been as good to you as you've been to me."

She didn't know what to do because Noah was probably on his way there looking for her. He seemed like the type who would look for you if you left without telling him, which she had done.

"If he comes for me, what do I do?" She asked.

David didn't know what to tell her. She'd been in his life for longer than anybody except Nadine. He needed to tell Nadine that there was possibly another Ulfric in town looking for Natasha but right now Natasha needed his undivided attention.
"I don't know." He said. He looked around the room then back at her. "I don't know but if you don't want to go and he tries to take you, I'll protect you to my dying breath and you know that."
He stepped in and put his arms around her. In all the years they had been together, he tried to remember where they'd gone wrong with each other. They had loved each other at one time or so he'd thought.
"I wish I could undo this for you." He said. "There's a lot of shit I wish I could change for the both of us."

Natasha nodded her head against his chest. She'd joined the pack before David became Ulfric but her and David had immediately connnected and when he went up against the Ulfric she'd been the one who was waiting to take down the lupa if need be. The lupa had quietly stepped away from it all because she didn't like David. With the spot open, David had chosen Natasha. She hadn't felt ready for it but he'd insisted and now here they were years and broken promises later trying to fix her screw-up. He didn't owe her anything but he'd just offered to die for her.

"David, I never set out to hurt you." She looked up at him. "I tried to be what you wanted me to be. I really did."

She lowered her eyes but then looked back at him.

"That's why you've always gone back to Nadine. You know what to expect with her and she'll never hurt you or let anyone hurt you."

Natasha didn't say anything for several minutes letting what she'd said sink in for David then she finally spoke.
"There are things I did that I wished I hadn't, most of them ended up hurting you." She shook her head. Maybe she did need to go with Noah. At best she'd learn to love him and respect him. At worst she'd make him kill her because she couldn't stay faithful to him and his pack.

David nodded, still staring at her. He knew that. His time with Nadine had more or less been to get back at Natasha. Not so much because he wanted to be with Nadine. Nadine had known that and been fine with it.

"I know you never set out to hurt me. Neither of us set out to hurt the other one. It just happened." He kept his arms around her holding her, not sure if he'd ever see her again after this conversation because he didn't know what she would do. His phone rang and he almost didn't answer it. When he did it was Grayson. She gave him the news.

"Seriously, ok. I'll be there as soon as I can. Are you okay?"

She told him she was. He hung up and looked down at Natasha.

"Looks like Noah really did like you. He's here in Dallas." David said. He let that sink in.

Natasha stepped away from David, stopped then took another step back. Several thoughts ran through her mind, none of them helpful and a few of them nothing David was going to want to hear. She tried to keep her face blank because she had conflicting thoughts about Noah. She was a little frightened of him but she was also very attracted to him which she couldn't deny. He was easy on the eyes but the attraction was to him personally and not as much about his looks as one would think.

"If you're going to meet him, I'm going too," Natasha said walking back up to him. As much trouble as she caused herself by meeting up with Noah she still wanted to see him again. See this was why she couldn't be David's lupa. She liked the trouble she got herself into or she'd stop doing it.

David watched Natasha thinking about what he'd said. Her face didn't give anything away but he knew there were probably thoughts that he didn't care to know and most weren't helpful. He continued to watch her as thoughts of his own swirled. Noah had gone to Wired Angels, a known werewolf hangout and must have waited for a member of their pack to arrive so he could talk to them. It gave David hope that Noah wasn't a bad guy. At that rate, Noah could have just started picking off the pack to get David's attention.

"You're going to help keep the calm or to see if you get two alpha males to fight over you?" David asked. He wasn't even joking about it. He'd seen it happen before. He didn't think Natasha would do it but it didn't hurt to ask.

Natasha gave him the look that the comment deserved but she didn't say anything right away. She knew females did things like that all the time but she'd never actually done it nor would she expect them to fight over her. However, after all the bullshit she'd pulled on David over the years she could see why he'd think that was the case.

"No, I'm not going so you and Noah will fight over me. We may own Wired Angels but we don't want a fight to break out." She walked up to him and met his gaze. "Give me some credit, David. I've done some bad things to you but I would never set you up or put you in a position to fight another alpha just for the hell of it."

She hoped he believed her because that really was the truth. She would never knowingly get him hurt or in a bad situation.

David agreed with Natasha. As owners of Wired Angels in Amber's absence, they didn't want a fight to break out or the shop to be trashed. That said, he was taking Natasha and no bodyguards. Noah, as an alpha would smell the extra wolves and might take it the wrong way. David didn't want trouble for the pack and he didn't want trouble for Natasha either so he would trust Natasha not to get him killed by Noah and trust himself not to let his attitude get him killed either.

"I know, Natasha. I trust you. If I didn't you wouldn't be standing in here right now and you know that." He made sure everything was turned off in the kitchen and turned back to her.

"Let's go see what Noah wants."

Natasha followed David out locking up the house behind her. She didn't know if she agreed with the no bodyguards but then she could also understand that David didn't want trouble for the pack. They'd had enough of that before Mia left and since Josh's death. Things were relatively quiet right now and Natasha would like to see it stay that way.
