History:
Family Background:
He was a third generation Japanese American. His grandparents had immigrated to the United States shortly after their marriage. His grandmother had been a popular dancer on Broadway in his younger years. His grandfather loved her passionately and worked hard to give her the life she wanted. He opened a sushi restaurant and worked hard till it was a success. He made a modest living. His grandmother’s dance career came to an end with the birth of his father. His grandmother then poured her passion into her family. His grandfather tried to pass on family and cultural knowledge to his father. His father was a typical 2nd generation child and only wanted to embrace the American way of life. His father did not speak Japanese and was very selfish. He went on to become a very wealthy lawyer. His mother was the perfect match for his father. His mother was just as ambitious. His mother was the ultimate party host and socialite. She understood politics and was deft at the game. She had helped his career along by helping him with clients and his partners. They were so busy “climbing the social ladder” and “providing the good life” that Kevin was pushed aside. As a result Kevin spent a lot of his youth with his grandparents who were always willing to watch him. His grandparents raised him while his parents spent their time indulging themselves. He was very close to his grandparents.
Youth:
Kevin was born in New York City, New York. His grandparents babysat him often for his parents. He would often be at his grandparents’ restaurant “Naked Fish”. He loved watching his grandfather make sushi. He had such skill with a blade. His grandmother played hostess and waitress. He was fascinated with blades at an early age. His grandfather seeing his interest was pleased. He finally had someone to teach. Kevin was a sponge for his grandparents’ love and attention. His grandfather began to teach him Bushido and how to use various types of blades. His grandmother taught him about Japanese traditions and culture. His parents disapproved of their interest but were not interested in paying for child care so let it go. He had a pretty typical childhood. He went to school. After school, he would walk to his grandparents restaurant where he would stay still his parents picked him up late in the day. He was shy and slightly awkward as a child. He had a hard time relating to other kids. He was an only child and did not make friends easily. The rift between him and his parents were growing. He did not understand them…and they did not understand him.
Teen Years:
He hit full blown rebellion in his teen years. He resented his parents’ treatment of his grandparents. He became an embarrassment to his father who had political goals. He got involved with a bad group of kids. It came to a head when he was arrested for hitting a police officer. The police officer was just doing his job. He and his friends were vandalizing the school. He was there to stop them. His grandparents intervened and had him move in with them. The calm loving influence of his grandparents tried to turn his rage and energy and channel it into more positive channels. His grandfather enrolled him in martial arts classes knowing that he had taught him all he had to teach. He excelled of course. The physical demands of the sport allowed him to work out his anger. The philosophy of the sport helped him on an almost spiritual level. He was good, really good. He started competing with other schools and attending martial arts meets. By the time he was a senior in high school, his future career looked bright. He graduated high school with average grades which disappointed his father and mother, but hey he did graduate.
College Years:
His father wanted him to go to college. He wanted to start competing and building a career as a professional martial artists. He loved the sport. He compromised by moving away to attend college in Denver, Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado and studied liberal arts. He already knew what he wanted to do with his life and really had no need of a degree. He was on their competitive team. He had become an adrenaline junkie. He rode a motorcycle and had taken up some of the more extreme sports in the area. He loved skiing and rock climbing. Away from his parents, he had finally relaxed and learned to make friends. His future was looking bright when tragedy struck. His beloved grandparents were killed by a drunk driver. He was grief stricken when he got the news. He became further estranged from his parents when he learned that they had not honored his grandparents wish to be buried together. They had instead had them both cremated. Kevin’s parents presented him with their ashes and informed him that a memorial service was just a waste of time and money. Kevin was not sure if he would ever be able to forgive his parents for that. He stayed in a hotel that night and flew back to Colorado the next day. He scattered their ashes together on a high rocky mountain top hoping that wherever they were they were together. Kevin was surprised when he received a certified letter from a lawyer in New York. It turned out that his grandparents had left everything they had to him. The restaurant had been sold. Their home had been left to him. He cried all over again for them. He put his grief to work like he had his anger in the past. He worked harder than ever and graduated from College with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. His professional career was on the way. He had been picked up by a sports talent scout, and he had started to compete professionally.
Adult Years
His career had taken off. He was competing professionally and moving up the ranks. Two years out of college and the opportunity he had been waiting for opened up. He had won the match which put him in contention for the title. He went out to celebrate with friends. They had taken him to a dance club after dinner. They were leaving the club when a wererat charged into his group and into him. He was high on a new drug called smoke and mirrors and on a bad trip. The friends with him were killed as he flung them about like ragdolls, their skulls crushed. Only his training and reflexes saved him, he did his best his to fend him off his attacker but the wererat’s strength and speed were something he could not hope to match. He had clawed open his stomach and was about to take a bite when police shot him. He spent the next week in the hospital. The local rat king, Carlos Sanchez, paid him a visit at home to give him the bad news that he would be turning furry once a month. His professional career was over. He could not compete as a lycanthrope. Carlos feeling guilty over what a member of his Rodere had done did his best to help him learn control of his beast. He also helped him learn a new career and one he was highly suited for. Carlos ran a security agency. He taught Kevin his trade and hired him as one of his bodyguards. There was always work for bodyguards in Vail, Colorado. Vail was the winter playground of the rich and famous. He taught him about security systems, and computers. He was surprised to learn that he had a knack for computer security. He took to guns like he had been shooting them all his life. As he worked for Carlos his skill level grew. He became exceptional at what he did. He had innate ability to blend in with those he was protecting. He could dress up to look like a date or blend in along with other security. It gave him an edge since the bad guys rarely looked twice at him; they never seemed to expect danger in small packages. Carlos’ sweetie did not like Kevin. She felt that Kevin should be more submissive to Carlos. She was upset when Carlos did not push the dominance issue with Kevin. He was too strong and therefore a threat to Carlos in her eyes. Tensions between him and Carlos’ future wife were escalating. He liked Carlos and did not want to be a point of contention with his new wife. So he told him that he would be going freelance and moving. He had him put the feelers out to see who could use an alpha wererat. He had heard that Dallas had very few wererats. So off to Texas he went. He tried to send word ahead that he was coming but for some reason reaching the Rodere there was difficult. He loved a good challenge. Dallas here he comes…..ready or not.
