Choices

[Mia Andreson]

The next two weeks were a blurr to Mia. Each morning she would wake up and text Josh just a single lined message "Baby and I are fine". Other than that she had no contact with him. Travis came over daily, each time finding a new and creative way to propose. Each time she gave him the same answer, that she would consider it. He was very protective of her, making sure she didn't over exert herself. He took her out to eat a few times. Other than that the only real times she left the apartment was when Travis would bring her to her doctors appointment. She was still on bedrest until her physical situation improved. The doctor told her that her stress levels were what was causing her healing to not move along as it should.

As the days went by, her missing of Josh did not fade. She was still just as torn as ever. But she knew for the health of her baby she had to make a decision. And soon. She didn't love Travis the way she felt that she loved Josh but but Travis was really stepping up and taking responsibility. In time she hoped she would fall in love with him. Josh not trying to contact her durring those two weeks did help her make the decision. Plus, after her mom's pleading for her to marry the father of the baby helped some too. So two weeks to the day of the first proposal, Mia agreed to marry Travis. He was extatic. The next morning with her normal text to Josh, she added another line. "Baby and I are fine. I am engaged."

That night Mia called Josh. She hung up before it rang several times before she had the courage to put the call through. She was nervous. Plus, she knew that as soon as she heard his voice again she would regret her decision to marry Travis. When he answered, she thought she heard a slur in his voice. But it still caused her heart to skip a beat. She fought hard to keep her voice casual and calm, even those were the opposite of her true feelings. "Hi Josh, its Mia. I was wondering if I could come by sometime to pick up the rest of my things?"

[Josh Patton]

The first couple of times he hadn't heard the phone because he was throw up the beer he had drunk. When he came out of the bathroom he was still drunk but when he looked at the number on his phone he sobered up enough to answer it. He sat down on the side of his bed.

"Sure, tomarrow afternoon would be good if you want?" He said. He was making a note to himself to have Lucinda or somebody else meet Mia at the house. "I got your text, congradulations."

Mia sat down on the bed. "Yeah tomorrow works for me. Not like Im doing much of anything these days" She ran a hand thru her hair. "Thanks. Its not going to be until after the baby is born tho." The next bit came out in a rush "I just thought I would let you know so you weren't waiting around for me and so you could move on. But I also wanted you to know how much i miss you too"

He didn't question why they were waiting. It wasn't his business. Knowing she missed him made him happy but that didn't matter because she wasn't coming back to stay with him.
"It gives you time to plan." He said. "I miss you too."

Mia felt a sharp pain in her stomache and knew she had to get control of herself. But hearing him say he missed her brought tears to her eyes. She bit her lip and waited a second to make sure her voice would sound steady. "How have you been?" THere was a slight wobble at the end of the question

[Josh Patton]

He thought about it for a minute. He could tell her the truth that he was miserable but she didn't to hear that.
"Good, working a lot." He paused. "You?"

[Mia Andreson]

"im doing ok. resting a lot. Doctor says im not out of the woods yet, that i need to lower my stress." Mia paused. "Can i come see you?"

[Josh Patton]

He didn't say nothing for a minute.
"Sure, I'll see you tomarrow." He said. He really wanted to see her but he it would just make things harder. He looked at his watch. "I guess I should go and let you rest."

That wasn't what she meant. She had meant now. But he didnt seem that enthused about seeing her. "I mean, if you dont want to see me, thats fine too" She felt a tear escape her eyes and she hastily brushed it away. She hated that he had just given up on her. That he didn't even try to convince her that they could be happy together.

[Josh Patton]

"I would like to see you. Tonight just isnt good, that's all." He said, after hearing her hurt voice. He was too drunk to see her but he couldn't tell her that.

[Mia Andreson]

A thought suddenly hit her. He was with another girl right then. "Oh ok. Yeah no problem." She knew she had no right to be jealous, none at all. "Well I hope you have a fun rest of your night"

[Josh Patton]

"Mia, I know that tone. If I had someone here I would have told you." He paused. "The truth is I'm a little drunk and I'd rather you not see me like that okay." He said. He hadn't wanted her to know but there it was.

Mia felt relieved but at the same time concerned. In the time that she had known him he never drank. "Your drunk? Alone? How come?"

[Josh Patton]

He wasn't about to tell her why. He didn't want to tell her.
"It's not a big deal. Really, I'm okay." He said. He didn't want to discuss it with her. "Listen, I'm fine."
